March 2009 Web Server Survey
In the March 2009 survey, we received responses from 224,749,695 sites. This has brought the total up by more than 9 million sites, with QQ and Microsoft making the most significant contributions. Apache remains in the lead with a total of 104 million sites, while Microsoft-IIS's gain of 3.3 million sites (mostly consisting of new Windows Live blogs) brings its total up to 66 million.
After storming into the survey last month, this month sees QQ gain a further 8.9 million sites. QQ now hosts nearly 29 million Qzone sites under the qzone.qq.com domain, all of which are served by its own QZHTTP server. Little is known about this server, although people have noticed a similarity that suggests QZHTTP may be a customised version of thttpd.
Although it is generally uncommon for websites to use fake Server headers, there are some cases that stand out more than others. One relatively prevalent example is ZX_Spectrum/1997 (Sinclair_BASIC), which is used by a Russian company to serve 0.02% of the world's websites. The ZX Spectrum was an 8-bit personal home computer released in 1982, but it was discontinued two years before the World Wide Web even existed.
Which servers do the busiest sites use?
With almost a quarter of a billion websites found by this months survey, it is timely to show which web servers run the busiest sites on the web.
Using traffic data compiled by aggregating visits from the Netcraft Toolbar community, we have determined the web servers used by the million busiest websites on the Internet. Examining a fixed number of high traffic sites produces a less volatile view which is uninfluenced by parked domains or the majority of personal sites, shared hosting accounts and blogs.
The clear leader amongst web servers used by the million busiest websites is Apache with a 66% share. It has a 47% lead over its closest competitor, Microsoft-IIS, much greater than on the web as a whole.

House Renovation: Week 8.5
It's not even mid-week yet, but I've got to post this. A couple of weeks ago, my nephew aka contractor came over to discuss the design for our porch. We selected dark brown and light brown tiles, and Miqdam was supposed to do some geometric design with the combo. We actually don't have any idea. With us, Miqdam likes to experiment and propose something out of ordinary because we are always open to his suggestions. Know what, he finally suggested "two hearts". I told him, no way. Jiwang and corny nya. I even told him - "baik kau letak anak panah sekali!". Hehehe... But he explained and did some sketches. The design looks nice on paper. Something different. And we said OK.Today, Hubby came back from work with these pictures of the our porch. I love it. Akak suka, akak suka!
The two hearts design. Lambang cinta sejati kita berdua, kuang, kuang, kuang. This actually turned out much better than I imagined. Tiles do work in mysterious ways. The colours look different due to the dust. They are actually dark brown and this earth colour of light shade of brown.Ada border kat keliling.

Pros- Very quiet- Very fast- Easy set up- My wife likes it!Cons- Glossy black dust magnet.- Few issues with updating the ATI drivers, 4850, kept failing and I had to roll back several times, finally figured out it was the Catalyst Control Center version.Additional ThoughtsHopefully when Win 7 is available I can get a upgrade break from Dell.

ProsColor and design.Room to expand, except for two video cards, but I went with the ATI Radeon 4870 1024MB which is more than enough for my needs.Still smells new.Has standard media card reader and extra usb ports that are easy to reach.Super fast. (That is compared to my Dell 8400 Dimension)Super quiet. There is a whoosh at start up but I think that is just to get extra dust to stick to the shiny black plastic.Went with the 24inch monitor because it was 190 off.ConsColor, yes it is a pro and a con because I was hoping it would be more orange than red. But seriously, you will miss out on a great computer if can't get past the bright red-orange that you can hardly see anyways. I don't know about everyone else, but when I use my PC I am looking at the monitor, not the tower. The black plastic is a dust magnet. Price. I need part of the stimulus package to pay for it.They did send me the wrong keyboard, but I actually like it better than the one I thought I was getting.Additional ThoughtsI ordered this the day after it appeared ever so quietly on the website. I was getting a little nervous after reading the earlier reviews until I realized that they didn't even have the computer. I didn't get a sound card because it wasn't offered the first week and I am happy with the onboard sound so far. I did look at other brands before buying this one. This is my third Dell and I haven't had any major problems so that is why I will stick with Dell.

Title: Studio XPS 435

ProsI researched a new PC for months and had settled on the Studio XPS MT based on the good reviews in PCMAG and PCWORLD. I ordered that model, and waited forever for it to ship. During this time I read the user reviews of it and ended up getting buyer's remorse when Dell launched this new 435 model. I ended up cancelling the original order and at the time was able to get all the same components with the 24" monitor for $50 more. All in all not a bad trade. It more than makes up for many of the concerns of the other model. It is very open to upgrades, although as mentioned in other reviews it doesn't support SLI/Crossfire GPUs. There are no issues with the cooling fan noise on this model from my 5 days of experience. It does kick into high gear for a few seconds when booted up or restarting.ConsThe orange color has been mentioned in other reviews, and as long as you have the PC out of sight under a desk it is subtle. The case is very big and doesn't fit under my current desk so the orange stares at me from my desktop and it is not the best choice. The tray on top is handy, but small. It will fit an iPod, but not my portable hard drive. The only major frustration was waiting for Dell to build a system that was newly launched. It took almost 3 weeks from order to ship date. The positive is it took 48 hours from ship to delivery.Additional ThoughtsOverall I am very happy with this purchase and Dell has a competitively spec'd and priced product.

Want to figure out all your computer specs? Stuff like CPU speed, RAM, Hard Drive space, screen resolution, etc? It's actually not as easy as it should be. Maybe I'm missing something, but as far as I can tell, you have to go to separate areas in Windows to figure this it out.
So here's a how-to chart:
RAM & Windows Version -Right-click My Computer and select Properties . The screen that pops up will give you info on what version of Windows you're running and how much RAM is currently installed in the machine.
Hard Drive Space -Open My Computer , right-click the C: drive, and select Properties from the resulting menu. You'll get a handy little Pie chart that gives you used and available HD space.
Screen Resolution -Right-click the Windows Desktop and select Properties . Hit the Settings tab on the resulting screen. You'll see your resolution and color depth listed there.
CPU Speed -Windows XP will actually give you this if you right-click My Computer, Properties . However, older versions of Windows won't give you the slightest hint as to the CPU speed.
So, what can you do?
First place to look is towards the top of the screen when the computer first starts up. Some machines will display the type of processor and speed. If you have some sort of splash screen come up when you first turn on the computer, try hitting the Escape key. Sometimes that will remove the splash screen and let you see the "real" screen behind it.
If that doesn't work, you may need to find a third party software utility to check CPU speed. I haven't run one of these for a couple years, so I don't really have a good one to recommend. I went over to ZD Net http://downloads-zdnet.com.com and typed " CPU speed " into the search engine, but there weren't any freebies that I could find.

Computer details, access information

The programs discussed in this manual were all written in FORTRAN 77, and use no special statements that are machine specific. The programs themselves are straightforward computational algorithms. In fact, these programs could quite easily be translated into another language, or used by someone who had no previous knowledge of FORTRAN, just by learning the meaning of a few statements that are analogous to those in C, for example. All programs should be run in double precision (8 bytes or 64 bits per real variable). Running the finite difference routines in single precision may give reasonable answers, but double precision is more trustworthy. Running the finite element routines in single precision will not work, except perhaps for very small systems, on the order of 103 = 1000 nodes.
In the finite element programs, all the main arrays are passed to subroutines via simple common statements. Small variables and parameters are passed in the subroutine calls. In contrast to this, in the finite difference programs, all variables, including the main arrays, are passed via subroutine call parameter lists. There are no common blocks used. In the finite element programs, the dimensions of the system can be easily changed by doing a global replace on the dimensions shown in the array declarations in the main program, since the dimensions of the main arrays in the subroutines must be changed as well. The values of nx, ny, and nz are then changed to match. The dimensions of the main arrays in the finite difference programs only need to be changed in the main program. There is no reason why the system studied has to be a cube. All the programs will handle a rectangular parallelipiped with nx ny nz . There are no input files except that for the system digital image. If the user desires to have the various phase conductivities, elastic moduli, etc. given in input files, that is easy to introduce into the programs.

I stumbled upon the nifty “lshw” tool today. lshw lists your hardware. Try it now:$sudo lshw
You can get specific details by using the -C flag:$sudo lshw -C diskwill list all you hard disks.
It create an html page with your hardware details if you do a:$sudo lshw -html > your-file-name.htmlI generated one for my laptop and put it up for future reference. Now I have an answer to the question, “what network adapter do you have, or what wireless driver are you using?”
I know, this is something probably all of you know already. I just found out about this little tool today. I expect this info might be useful for those of you just learning the ropes, like me.

Wow, seems like I was not the only one who found it terribly handy
mpt, as opposed to lshw, I have trouble figuring out where to find out, say, the make and specs of my processor. The lshw page that I created for myself(that’s another thing the Device Manager lacks), seems to have information organized in a better, more readable way.

Yep, Hewlett Packard definitely makes nice notebooks and I’ve owed several of them. I think though since I own my own business now I’d like to get a laptop with a little more “umph” so I’ve been looking at the different models that Sony makes. I’ve never actually owned a Sony but I’ve used a countless number of them and they’ve always given me a pleasurable experience.
I’m looking to go Pentium and a 3 Gig minimum with at least 2 Gigs of RAM. I plan on spending a lot of time on the road and I’ll need this power to run my business from the road and in other offices. Can anyone recommend a specific model?

I tried to use this command in OpenSuse 10.3 and it wouldn’t work. come to find out lshw is a bit more than a command. Here is a weblink for the site for it.

I have to add to the accolades, just what I needed to find out exactly what I had inherited when I picked up this old box.
What a shame it is not documented in the Ubuntu Install Procedures. It might make resolving hardware based installation procedures a little easier.
I find it odd that you can notify Launchpad about your configuration on installation but you cannot find out yourself.
